RE: Trie protectant

Most auto supply stores like Auto Zone, Advenced Auto Parts, etc carry it. I've even seen 303 in a well stocked hardware store.
But what is the name of it? Brand name? I went to NAPA and they could not figure what it was I was looking for when I just asked for 303 protectant.
Thanks
So. CA.
I have -never- seen 303 in an auto parts store.
I *have* seen it in small hardware stores.
You will do much better price wise to order directly from -
www.303products.com
(They will send you a nice sample box of all their products for $5)
303 Products, Inc.
P.O. Box 966
Palo Cedro, CA 96073
The item you are looking for (for tires, etc.) is:
"303 Aerospace Protectant"
for: vinyl, rubber, plastic, fiberglass, leather.
Nope - don't work for 'em - just use their stuff.

RE: Calif drivers license

Well, countryrose you're right about going ahead and getting the endorsement.
If your trlr is between 10K and under 15K - it's simply a 20 question test,
no big deal.
This "debate" has been on here several times! There's plenty of posters
who "got it done" quickly and easily at their local DMV
However, I'll have to disagree about your judge statement!
Yes, judges *DO* have the responsibility to uphold the law - - however,
interpretation (of the law) from judge to judge (for Infractions & Misdemeanors)
can be dramatically different for the exact same offense (cited exactly identical).
Been in civil court where the judge obviously hasn't read the information about the case before him! Been in the 4th Dist Ct of Appeal (3 judges) - Judge number one stated he didn't want the attorney briefs to interfere with his lunch. Judge number two, said she hadn't had time to study the case. Judge number three wouldn't commit to any level of understanding - but simply may not have wanted to look as bad as numbers one & two.
Back to jdog's statement - as you can see, I wouldn't count on a judge "knowing about this mess" - or seeing it your way.
Unfortunately, - it's *NOT* a proven fact!
Why? Because of all the endorsements the DMV -HAS- issued!
Bottom line -
We live in a very litigious society.
Your insurance will cover you up to the limits of your policy,
above that - you're on your own.

RT -
Why not tell us which one was bad & good?
Nobody worries about doing that with the various tire brands
on the other forums (here).
You can even preface that info with "IMO".
Lots of us will say -
Thank you!

RE: Sidewinder, Superglide or HiJacker

Usually owners are happy with what they have.
Also a previous (several) TT owner.
Never tried the others - did my research & bought a Superglide.
(Even installed it myself w/helper).
Couldn't be happier.
Unfortunately it seems that the threads on the forums drop off
after a year (or is it two).
So, often lots of first-hand experience (no matter what brand)
is lost.
Anyway - as noted - use the search feature and go with what you like best.

RE: Power tugs

I happened across the "other brand" (used) when I had a small TT.
Figured I couldn't go wrong - due to the price - so why not give it a try!
120V AC - great motor, geared to move mountains, dual wheels - now sells for about $1200.
Well - as already noted -
1. They are best utilized on *very* level ground.
2. The wheels will lose traction if you have to go over anything slippery
(like grass).
3. Braking can be a problem. The model I had, has a provision to use the
trailer brakes (add-on option) - which I didn't have.
So my little bit of incline created a BIG problem, LOL!
Note: All this valuable experience was gained with a 20 ft TT !!
Can't even imagine an attempt with my 5th wheel.
Sold it to my neighbor for what I paid - he moves a utility trailer with his ATVs (quads) on board.
He's happy - it works fine for that.
A lot of (small, pleasure) boat yards use them to park
the stock close together & end to end, etc.
Bottom line - use your tow vehicle!

RE: Storing 50A detachable cord

Best single "accessory" I ever purchased:
Powered (12V) Electric cord reel and (50A) cord.
Yes "pricey" - but it's a *lifetime item.
Mounted in basement storage.
Pull out only what you need.
Push button - reel in when done.
Cord is much better quality than the original (more flexible).
*If I ever upgrade (newer, larger, or?) RV -
the cord & reel will go with me!

RE: Calif drivers license

When dealing with the California DMV you have to be patient and remember they have an intense training program. They recruit the dumbest people on the planet and then do a frontal lobotomy take out what little intelligences they have and turn them loose on the unsuspecting pubic. So when dealing with them be prepared to hold their hand and show them their own publications and if you are lucky they may even speak English.
Good Luck
Very accurate!
However, you didn't mention that each DMV office has their OWN
training program, enforce ALL regulations as they see fit . . . . . because they KNOW they are the ONLY office in the State.
Also - unsuspecting public! Not!
C'mon! CA DMV has been like that forever!

RE: champion generators

do you have phone numbers for the kragens in southern california
Yep/huh? - WHAT CA "regulations" ??
Pick an area (city) in CA closest to you (or where you
prefer to travel), call information -
ask for the phone number for Kragens Auto Supply.
So. CA is FULL of Kragens stores!
(3 within 5 miles of me - all have the gens)
Champion RV 3500 watt gens = $300. (after rebate)
Champion Generators should also be available at Tractor Supply
(great warranty) and Schuck's, etc.

China shut-down.
Hmmmmmm - does that slow the purchase of crude & refined product/s by China?
Maybe we will see a penny decrease at the pump!
Two major (if you can call 'em that) papers in the area.
They both seem to always have the multi-page Pep Boys ads.
One has the weekly Kragen ad - the other one never has it.

RE: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.

This "event" made me think of the Prof (and others here) sound deadening & enclosure efforts:
Had a power outage Friday afternoon about 4PM - So. CA.
Wife said she heard a loud bang.
After about an hour, I fired up a small gen for fans.
So. CA Edison was in the area - but things didn't look good.
(head scratching & pickup trucks)
Later in the evening lots of "serious" Edison activity -
but still no juice.
My street & parts of a couple of others without power -
area has underground utilities.
Hit the sack about 2AM - still no power. Figure tomorrow could
be a bad day - outside temps will be around 90.
About 6:30 AM - power came on - "stuff" powering up woke me up -
wife said there was lots of jack-hammering, etc. all night
(somehow -LOL!- I missed that!).
Headed out to the local coffee shop - and lo and behold there's
several "Champions" parked on the street/s with *BIG* cords running into the vaults.
Surprised they didn't have a guard standing by for the copper value!
The Electrical Champs in this case were rental Aggreko units, one
per trailer (the link shows a flat-bed with two).
The point of this lengthy "attaboy" (for So. CA Edison & Aggreko) is -
**You had to get right next to the thing to realize it was running!!**
And, each was powering about 20 homes - I'm sure ALL with A/C running full tilt. (I would rate the noise level to that of a Honda 3000i).
Neighbor happened to be chatting with a worker when the side door/s
were open - said it was pretty loud - typical diesel noise/s!
*VERY* impressive "green" (-QUIET-) diesel power!!
Must have been the "Hush" Power models.
(Oh yeah- Edison "grid" power back about 12 hrs later)
Whisper quiet!

RE: GM's days of "Built in America" are numbered

"NEWS FLASH" NOT "NEW" FLASH
"1989" (thats right 1989) Gm will import three vehicals and sell them under the GEO name badge. The Prizim (toyota) also Metro and Tracker (suzuki). The metro was here as the Chevy Sprint as far back as 1987 as was the Prizim only before that it was a "new" nova.
Shortly there after the GEO badge was droped and Chevrolet picked up these models (again) to help GM meet Federal over all MPG average across all GM model lines.
Why do these CEO BUMS get the big bucks. All of a suden they can't get the cars from overseas imported soon. Heck they allready have done it. All of a sudden they don't know how to build a compact car. They have been sharing RND for years (so has Ford and Chrysler) with overseas MFGs and most cars built here are put together with componet parts shipped in from over seas..Why would bringing in a hole car be any tougher for them since they have already done it.
~
~
What's a "hole car" ??
Must be a "NEW FLASH"!

I guess what I am getting at is "those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it"....
I just can't stand it when history is repeated and then reported as "new" news

RE: get so much done, new cell phone law in CA (video link)

Only in Mercedes. I can take my hands off steering wheel and the car will not change the line for 1/4 mile :B
"Henry's Mercedes" !!
I had an "almost stock" Model A Ford (and a '56 Ford) when I was in
HS. The previous owner had changed the steering wheel (moved elect
switches to toggles below the cowl/tank/"dash").
The steering wheel had the original single large nut exposed in the middle of the column - holding the steering wheel in place.
Great fun to have it finger tight - and while going down the road,
remove the nut on the sly, pop the wheel off & hand it to a passenger.
As long as you didn't hit any potholes (or?) it went straight-arrow.
Quarter of a mile EZ!
Oh yeah - the video.
CHP is happy to hand out lots more serious (and expensive) "cites" than talking on a cellphone! Covered by other VC sections, like reckless driving, etc.
CHP probably wouldn't have been too happy about driving without a steering wheel either, LOL!

RE: For you railroad buffs out there.

Model Train enthusiasts might look into Walt Disney's (Google) "Carolwood Pacific Railroad". Nice write up in Wikipedia.
Also - the Disney family recently authorized an (HO) electric version of the "Lilly Belle", which went on sale last year (?).
(Google: "Model-Train shares Disney magic with a new generation")
A school chum's dad was a cartoonist for the defunct (long gone) Los Angeles Herald Express, and father & son were invited to an event at Walt's home.
My friend came back talking about the model train Walt had in his "back yard" that you could ride.

RE: Portable Generator

Single Yam 2400iS.
Stored in truck bed "full-time" - front, behind driver. (Short-bed, Dodge)
(Exhaust is to the right -center of the truck- pull is closest to edge of bed)
(Large) cable passes through bed drain hole around truck frame,
and the gen handles - then locked.
Then "covered" as follows:
I made a plywood box which goes over the gen when not in use.
The top of the box has a "slide through" flat steel bar with padlock hole in the end.
When the bar and lock are in place (besides the box, it slides under the Yam carrying handles inside), the box can't be lifted off the gen . . . . without lifting the 70 lb gen . . . which is secured with the cable and (second lock) to the truck frame.
Sounds complicated - but it's pretty simple.
I leave the "disguised" gen in the pickup all the time. The truck bed has a
Fold-A-Cover in place when -NOT- towing which covers the whole works.
(Usually leave my SuperGlide in place also.)
When towing (with gen -NOT- in use) the box keeps the gen out of the weather
and away from prying eyes.
Gen remains in the same location when being used.

Spepi - If you were a reporter, you missed the "scoop" - big time, LOL!
1. Has anybody keeping track of how many times this has been posted
as a new thread - with various topics - for the past WEEK?
(I'll guess at least twenty)
#2. Has anybody kept track of how long they last before Frank
(AKA - Fastest Mod in the West) shoots 'em down? (LOL!)
Hint - they have lasted longer on the "General RVing Issues" forum.
One poster there has a list of all the previous threads (and links to 'em),
complete with a Q and A of everything about the incident.
Frank - like my "opener" if you delete the thread (rather than closing 'em) - "somebody" figures "nobody" has seen it yet!
